Post-sea life, Stanton found solace at the Sailors Haven in Boston, Massachusetts, where he served as director. Not only did Stanton have a knack for sailing, but he also had a beautiful voice and was a reputable Chantie singer. His collection of sea songs, Kings Book Of Chanties, was published in 1918.
